That mathematical proof might be the awesome-est proof I've ever seen. I clap my monkey hands for it.

I agree with your rant. If it makes you feel better, I thought I'd get some usefulness out of my degree, but that hope died a horrible fiery death since. As a friend of mine once said, you don't actually learn anything useful at university, you just learn how to learn. I'm pretty sure that even a degree in science isn't terribly enlightening, it's what you do with it once you get out into the real world that makes it worthwhile. The only things I've ever felt were like that were some of the things I've done in jobs. And even then, the job politics and my inner sense of the ridiculous are usually able to cull that sufficiently.

You'll get used to it after a while. I'm always asking people I meet what they do for a living and if they like their job. It makes me feel a little better when, every once in a while, I find one.

I've never been able to see one of the Magic Eye thingers. It makes me sad.

I no longer care about usefulness in a degree. I was talking more about being challenged, and learning things, and finding out interesting things. I just feel like I could have had a (relatively) free four years of learning interesting things (since that's mostly what I wanted out of university), and I wasted it by reading old moldy poems and Crakespeare.
